It seems to me that that case is less about capital punishment and more about the horrible liberties that the prosecution took with the truth. Depending on your opinion, 25 years in jail may be better or worse than death. Either way, it's still pretty fucking bad, and it'd be a good idea to reduce the number of wrong imprisonments.
(FWIW, I am against capital punishment, but only because every life is sacred. To put it mathematically, there's always a nonzero chance of reform.)
